Frank's Story: From Homeless to "At Home" in Center City

In 1989, Frank came north to Philadelphia to start a new life. Settling in with a cousin, he found a part time job that promised to become full-time. That didn’t work out. Shortly thereafter, he found himself on the streets because of a disagreement with his cousin.  What a daunting predicament – penniless and homeless.

Fortunately, he was able to get into a shelter. He also got help with his mental health issues by connecting with case management at Horizon House.  Through his case manager, Frank got connected to CPM and 1260.  Just about a month after completing the housing application process, Frank had his own apartment!  In 1999, he got a part-time job with Horizon House as an assistant case worker.

Today, Frank continues to move forward.  He no longer needs case management services, and he has moved to a much roomier CPM apartment in Center City.  Frank “highly recommends CPM to anyone finding themselves in a similar situation, because it allows you to get housing that you otherwise could not afford.”  Today, thanks to CPM and 1260, Frank has a Housing Choice Voucher from the Philadelphia Housing Authority. He can use this voucher anywhere in the US as long as the landlord agrees to accept it.
Frank is well aware of the ironies in his life: “I used to receive case management services from Horizon House, now I help the case managers. I used to be homeless in Center City, now I have a home in Center City.”  Here’s to wishing Frank continued success!
