Jeanette Ivey, one of 1260’s first tenants, talks about her life in South Philadelphia. |
Imagine my surprise when I walked into Lowe’s South Philadelphia store a month ago and the greeter hugged me! Usually it’s just a polite hello with an offer to help you find what you need.... Then I realized that this was Jeanette Ivey, one of the first tenants that I met when I came to 1260 in 1996.
Jeanette also happens to be one of 1260’s first tenants ever - having moved into her current home in South Philadelphia in the early 1990’s. Jeanette told me that at first it was a struggle to adjust to her new neighborhood. In fact, she had a very difficult time with her next door neighbor, who constantly complained about the noise that her young son made. But they are now the best of friends! In fact, now Jeanette really likes her little street and just about everyone who lives there. She is invited to the occasional block party with open arms.
She also loves her job at Lowe’s, and celebrated her third anniversary there on June 16. She has received a raise each year and finds her co-workers and management to be a great bunch of people. An added bonus is the ability to walk to work, as her home is near Front & Snyder, just a few blocks from the store.
She loves her house and really appreciates the improvements – new carpets, painting, and central air – that 1260 did as part of a recent upgrade. When I asked her what influence 1260 has had in her life, she replied: “I don’t know what I would have done or where I would have been without 1260!”
Here’s to wishing her continued success!
